What our students say:

I had the pleasure of working and training with Deborah between 2012 and 2015. I learned so much during this time about every aspect of grooming such as coat types, equipment use and maintenance, time management and dog handling techniques. As well as being an excellent groomer, Deborah was an excellent teacher who was always very professional and supportive. She allowed me to progress at a steady pace without pushing me too far out of my comfort zone.
It was because of this support that I had the confidence to enter the IPDGA grooming championships ‘new to grooming class’ in which I was very pleased to win first place. In the weeks leading up to the competition Deborah guided and advised me in how to best prepare my dog and what to expect on the day. Without her help I would never have entered the class let alone won.
I would highly recommend Deborah as a teacher to anyone who is considering training as a dog groomer. You can be assured that you will learn correct grooming techniques in a friendly supportive environment.

One to One Training

Training is on a one-to-one basis and you can expect to work hands on with dogs from the first day of this course. You will be supported to professionally present dogs of a variety of breeds over each day of the course. This will ensure that on completion of the programme you have learned the skills and competencies in dog grooming that will be required of you in the dog grooming industry.

The course will focus on dog handling skills, correct bathing, drying and styling techniques including clipping, scissoring, hand stripping, effective selection and utilization of the grooming tools required for the job. Other aspects covered on the course will include first aid, nail and ear care, skincare, coat care and anatomy. Each day you will complete documentation relevant to each dog you work on and your progress with each dog will be assessed daily.

You will be required to read the breed standards for the dogs you will be grooming before beginning your day so that you understand the breed both structurally and characteristically; helping you to understand how to handle the dog on the table, and their desired appearance.

Before you start

Prior to commencing this course, it is recommended that students would complete a one day work experience placement in Deborah’s Doggie Parlour to ensure that the course is suitable to your requirements. This provides Deborah with an opportunity to understand what you want to achieve so that the course can be tailored to meet your requirements.

Dates for training can be agreed with Deborah in advance of taking up a place on the course. If you would like further information on this course, including pricing details
